My Story

Speeding Up Business

The last decade of my work has been as a UI designer, going through a problem solving process to design improvements to business processes in the form of digital applications. I have helped modernize and streamline the company’s internal workflows with over 30 websites, apps, and branding projects.

I Speak Developer

I have been the sole designer on a team of developers where I educated them about design thinking and built a design system and tools for the department from the ground up. I have been in the front-end trenches of coding with the devs, writing HTML and CSS.

Bachelor of Science In Design

I started my journey into the design field by studying Industrial Design at The Ohio State University. This was a research based curriculum where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Design.

A bit more…

I am passionate about making the complex simple.

I love to ask "why?" and "yeah, but what does it mean?" My goal in projects and in life is to learn enough about things that I can turn around and teach it to a five year old.

I am incredibly empathetic.

I have a high tolerance for differing opinions, which is becoming more rare. I am humble and know that every person I talk to can teach me something. I have interacted with people from all walks of life, learning from and loving them. I am a great listener and work hard to find out what is meaningful to others.

I have a growth mindset.

I view problems as opportunities, not obstacles. I want to continually improve, every day, every year. I know I will never stop learning.

I am adaptable.

I have held jobs that took me in many different fields where I had to learn systems and processes with fresh eyes over and over. My schooling and professional life have also provided me with opportunities to learn new skills and tools and approaches over and over. This has made me a quick learner and given me the mindset of a continual learner.

Of course I also love making things clean, clear and beautiful.

My design journey has had many forks in the road, starting with art & photography, going to college for industrial design, pivoting to web design, and expanding into UX design.

Personally

I am a family man, with a wife and kids. Because my global church has no paid clergy, I have served in many leadership roles and responsibilities including:
- A two year, full-time, self-paid mission. My role each day was to talk to people, find out about their lives, teach them about my beliefs, and love and serve them.
- Many assignments that have taught leadership skills, formally and hands-on. I have had opportunities to guide and make decisions for youth and adult groups, taking into consideration opposing views, give feedback and advice to others in leadership roles.

I love bringing my design thinking into other creative endeavors like photography, woodworking, playing guitar, and songwriting.
